Wood Pellets

We have been exporting wood pellets from Canada for the past 10 years.  We have suppliers in Canada, as well as throughout South-East Asia. Pellets can be offered in containers or break bulk volumes with different packaging methods available.  Markets where wood pellets are used include : animal bedding, cat litter, residential heating, and large-industrial energy production.

Species of wood differs depending on the origin.  We can offer SPF (spruce, pine, fir) wood pellets from Canada and Eucalyptus, Acacia and rubber wood pellets from South-East Asia.

Palm Kernel Shells (PKS)

Palm kernel shells are the shell fractions left after the nut has been removed.

We ensure all of our suppliers of PKS have the required sustainability documentation needed to export into the Japanese and Korean marketplaces. PKS is a more affordable option than wood pellets for energy production.

Nut shells

Nut shells (usually made from almond, cashew, pistachio, walnut) can provide high energy output when burned.  The biggest issue with nut shells is their light weight.  Could be a suitable addition to energy production if the weight can be increased when shipping (compressing the product into bags or making pellets/briquettes).

Empty Fruit Bunch Pellets (EFB)

Empty Fruit Bunches are what is left over after the fruit bunches have been removed (for oil pressing).  The remaining EFB usually has high moisture values along with high chemical levels (Na, K, Cl specifically).  Because of this, EFB has to go through a process to lower the values of Na, K, and Cl in order to not cause damage to boilers.

Oil Palm Trunk Pellets (OPT)

Oil Palm Trunk is made from the felling of oil palm trees.  While tractability of OPT is quite good, there are some downfalls to using OPT as biomass.  The largest issue is the high moisture of OPT, along with high values of Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), and Chlorine (Cl).  If moisture and the chemical components can be reduced, then it is a viable option as a biomass fuel.

Torrefied Biomass

Torrefied biomass is the process of cooking biomass in order to remove the impurities and create a more dense product which is hydrophobic and also has higher energy values.

There are many benefits to torrefied products, but so far there has been no companies producing torrefied material in large quantities for an extended period of time.  We are committed to finding reputable suppliers that can meet the demands our clients are looking for.

Biomass Processing Plant and Equipment

Most biomass require pre-processing such as shredding, sieving, drying, pelleting or briquetting before being shipped in bulk.

It is vital to build a processing plant that is stable, reliable, easy to maintain and low in operating expenditure. Pegasus Commodities has the ability to introduce interested companies to a manufacturing company that can help to design and build PKS screening lines, Wood/EFB/OPT Pellet Plants and other biomass processing plants.
